Time flies quickly and school opening is just at the corner. In line with this, the Department of Education released the Official School Calendar for School Year 2017-2018.

This year, the school shall formally open early on June 5, 2017 and shall end on April 6, 2018 with a total of 195 class days. The memorandum released by Education Department Secretary Leonor Briones last May 5 was addressed to all members of the department.

According to the memorandum, private schools will be allowed to make their own adjustments on their school calendar granted that they do not start earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August. This is to follow Republic Act No. 7797 or An Act to Lengthen the School  Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More Than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days. If a private school needs to deviate from the said calendar, they have to inform their respective regional offices in advance.

The memorandum aims to effectively and efficiently implement school events and activities. Schools may observe national and local celebrations granted that they are beneficial to the teaching-learning process and the number of class days will not be compromised.  It also informs the probability of make-up classes if there were cancellations of classes which will be agreed upon by the school heads and Parent-Teacher Associations.
